Taxi Transfers To and From Hong Kong Airport

Three types of taxis operate out of Hong Kong airport. They can easily be distinguished by their colour. The taxi ranks are located near the left-hand ramp, outside Arrivals at Terminal 1.

Red Taxis

These are taxis for urban areas only, covering the airport to Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and parts of the nine new towns destinations, such as Tsuen Wan, Sha Tin and Tseung Kwan. Red taxis can go everywhere in the city, except travel south to Lantau Island.

Blue Taxis

These go to Lantau Island destinations and Chek Lap Kok.

Green Taxis

Green taxis cover the new towns, except those areas that Red taxis cover with their services. Green taxis go mainly to the north-east of the city (anything north of Sha Tin) and cover the south-west of Tsuen Wan.

Taxi Fares

Travelling to the Business District or other central parts of Hong Kong takes 30 to 40 minutes and costs around 40.00 euros. By contrast, a trip to Disneyland costs just 15.00 euros and takes less than 20 minutes. The fare to Tsuen Wan costs around 25.00 euros. Travelling to Macau Ferry Terminal takes 30 minutes and costs ca 30.00 euros.

Fares to Kowloon, for example to Cheung Sha Wan or Hung Hom MTR Station, cost between 28.00 and 33.00 euros (about HK$250.00 to HK$290.00). Going to Hong Kong Island's Western District costs HK$360.00 or ca 41.28 euros (exchange rate 1 euro = 8.72 HK$, November 2019). And a trip to Quarry Bay costs around HK$350.00, about 40.00 euros.

It's possible to arrange for pickup at Hong Kong airport. There are a few companies that offer private taxi transfers.

Quite a few hotels offer their own shuttle transfers, and pickup and drop-off is handled at the airport's Coach Station. Shuttles are often free, or charge only a small fee, as you are sharing minibuses with other passengers.
